Comprehensive Mammography Services in Memphis & Surrounding Areas

Mammography is used to detect early signs of breast cancer before patients develop symptoms. Mammograms can reveal solid tumors, fatty masses, and fluid-filled cysts that would otherwise be unnoticeable during self-examination.

Mammograms save lives because they can locate cancer at early stages when more treatment options are available. Many women diagnosed with breast cancer show no signs or symptoms. This is why regular screenings are so important.

Types of Mammograms

Screening Mammogram

Typically, women will begin mammogram screenings at age 40, though in some cases these screenings may start at an earlier age. Each screening is independently read by two or more radiologists who specialize in breast imaging. These tests usually take about 15 minutes, and the results are sent to your doctor.

Diagnostic Mammogram

Diagnostic mammograms are for patients who have experienced symptoms, have a family history of breast cancer, or have had an abnormality detected on a screening mammogram. This test is designed to capture a more comprehensive view in order to pinpoint the exact size of an abnormality. It also scans the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes. A physician’s referral is required for this screening.

Our Technology

Mammograms are just one part of breast cancer detection, and other technologies must be employed to determine if any abnormalities are cancerous or benign.

For example, your doctor may recommend a biopsy to remove a sample of cells for testing. Additional testing using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and even 3D mammography can also be used to check for cancer.
