Methodist University Hospital to Undergo Transformational Master Plan
Methodist University Hospital will soon undergo a $275M renovation and expansion. This investment reflects the continued commitment to clinical excellence, research and innovation at the flagship campus in the heart of Memphis.
Jeff Liebman, Chief Executive Officer of Methodist University, said, “This investment will bring state-of-the-art technology, replace old facilities and make a long-term commitment to the academic medical center as well as the core of our city.”
University Hospital, which serves a diverse patient population from throughout the Mid-South and is the primary teaching hospital for University of Tennessee Health Science Center, will be transformed through the master plan that includes:
- a tower straddling Eastmoreland Avenue that will vertically integrate cancer care, the Intensive Care Unit, outpatient services, and the new Methodist University Transplant Institute
- a 700-space parking garage connected directly to the tower that will add 200 parking spots
- renovations to existing buildings that will create needed physician offices and research space and increased green spaces including the addition of green space at the Southeast corner of Union and Bellevue where an existing building will be removed.
In February, MLH submitted the required Certificate of Need for campus construction to begin in the fall.
“The Foundation is honored to support the system’s investment in University Hospital. We will seek philanthropic partners to invest in innovative technology and enhancements that go beyond the scope of the master plan to further enhance this hospital that cares for so many in our community,” shared Paula Jacobson, Methodist Healthcare Foundation President.
