Volunteering

Volunteers at all of our hospitals play a critical role in providing compassionate, patient-and family-centered care.

With safety as our top priority, volunteers will be required to follow the same vaccine and masking policies that apply to the rest of our team.

Volunteer Roles You Can Serve In:

  • Greeters who meet and direct patients and guests entering the hospital
  • Information representatives who staff the information desk, assist patients and guests and provide directions or patient room information
  • Patient escorts who assist patients to and from curbside to hospital departments
  • Clerical support staff who help with hospital directions and patient room information, answer phones, help with office work such as copies and filing
  • Compassionate companions assigned to designated floors who serve as a link between patients and medical staff
  • Hospice volunteers who perform a variety of tasks at the Methodist Hospice Residence. Learn more about becoming a hospice volunteer »
  • Summer VolunTEEN Program: Our Summer Volunteer Program provides volunteer opportunities for 16- to 18-year-olds who want to learn more about the healthcare industry. Visit our Volunteen information page to learn more »
  • Join the Methodist Healthcare Auxiliary: The Auxiliary meets once a month as a group and also offers individual volunteer opportunities, including working in a hospital gift shop or delivering snacks and reading materials to patients. Step Three: Receive Immunizations

For our patients’ safety and yours, volunteers undergo many of the same immunizations and screenings required of our paid associates. Volunteer Services will connect you with our Associate Health Department to complete this process. You will be screened for tuberculosis and asked to provide proof of vaccination or immunity to chicken pox, measles, mumps and rubella. If you don’t have documentation, you may be asked to take a titer blood test to confirm immunity.  In addition, you will be required to show proof of COVID vaccinations (2 doses), and complete a 10-panel drug screen. MLH will provide the TB skin test, titer (if needed) and drug screen at no cost to you.

Step Four: Interview With a Team Member

You will be interviewed by a Volunteer Services team member. Once your paperwork is complete, we’ll contact you to set up an appointment.
