Our Kidney Transplant program was established in 1970 and has remained at the forefront of research and treatment for kidney disease and transplant.
Our goal is to ensure that transplantation is the appropriate treatment option and help you navigate through the journey with outstanding care both before and after transplantation.
Kidney Transplantation and End-Stage Renal Disease
Kidney transplantation surgically replaces a diseased kidney with a healthy kidney. Benefits and risks associated with this surgical procedure will be discussed throughout our education and evaluation process. You will be provided with the information needed to decide if kidney transplantation is the best treatment option for you.
Kidney Transplant Process
To determine if you are a candidate for kidney transplantation, you will need to meet with our transplant team to complete a thorough medical, social and financial evaluation. Once you have been referred to our program, our schedulers will make arrangements for you to come in for transplant education and to start the evaluation process. Throughout the transplant evaluation process, you will learn about transplantation and have the opportunity to ask questions.
Living Kidney Transplant
At Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute, we are proud to offer live donor transplantation as a treatment option. We offer minimally invasive techniques for living donor transplantation and work with the National Kidney Registry for paired exchange options.
