We work hard to integrate our students extensively into all aspects of the medication use process, from dispensing to medication histories to patient care rounds. Our goal is to ensure that when a student leaves, they understand how important the role of the pharmacist is to patient care on a variety of levels.
Created in 2019, the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy (UTCOP), Methodist University Hospital, and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital partnered together to create the Residency Track Advance Pharmacy Practice Experience Program (RTAP). The program aims to provide a structured training program for Doctor of Pharmacy students at the UTCOP during their final year APPEs to effectively prepare them for post-graduate residency training and a career as a clinical pharmacist.
The program creates a simulated “mini-residency” experience and allows the participating students to gain valuable experience related to patient care, research, and teaching, all while also participating in longitudinal lectures with the MLH pharmacy residents that will further build each students’ knowledge and skills within clinical pharmacy practice.
Interested students at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy are required to apply and interview for the available positions at each participating hospital.
