New Surgical Breast Oncologist Joins Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Methodist Cancer Institute
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare welcomes new surgical breast oncologist Melanie Crutchfield Whitten, MD, FACS, FSSO, to its Methodist Cancer Institute, located in midtown Memphis. Crutchfield Whitten will also practice at the Methodist Comprehensive Breast Centers in midtown and Germantown, which offer a variety of breast health services for patients including screening and diagnostic mammograms.
Crutchfield Whitten is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in breast surgery for oncology patients. She completed a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and Hoag Memorial Hospital. Crutchfield Whitten completed residency training at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey. She received a bachelor’s degree from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University and earned a doctorate from Rosalind Franklin University School of Medicine and Science in Chicago.
Prior to joining the Memphis-based healthcare system, Crutchfield Whitten was a breast surgical oncologist at Emory Healthcare.
Crutchfield Whitten is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Southeastern Surgical Congress and the National Medical Association. Her areas of expertise include benign and malignant breast diseases, oncoplastic breast surgery and breast cancer survivorship.
