Methodist Blood and Marrow Transplant Center

Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) is a life-saving therapy is used to treat patients with cancerous blood disorders including leukemia and multiple myeloma.  Blood and Marrow Transplant uses healthy blood-forming cells from the bone marrow or the bloodstream to help rebuild a healthy blood supply.

The procedure transplants hematopoietic stem cells (from bone marrow) or peripheral stem cells (from the blood stream) to the patient – these may be the patient’s own cells, cells saved earlier or cells provided by a donor.

Clinical Expertise and Outcomes

Since 2014 the Methodist Blood and Marrow Transplant Center has been accredited by the internationally-recognized Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and is recognized by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) as a large volume Transplant Center as of June 2016. Both FACT accreditation and NMDP affiliation demonstrate excellence and expertise in cellular therapy and clinical care.

Survival outcomes of the program are the best in the Mid- South just 15 months after performing its first allogeneic transplant.  With a one-year overall survival rate of 73.7 %, the Blood and Marrow Transplant Center is ranked among the top 13 centers in the nation as recently published by the NMDP.

Our Location

The Blood and Marrow Transplant Center is located within Methodist University Hospital at 1265 Union Avenue on the second floor of Shorb Tower. Valet parking is available in front of the hospital’s main entrance located on S. Bellevue Boulevard. Complimentary parking is also available in the parking garage located on Eastmoreland Avenue.
