“Our missions are parallel. Your mission is to ensure that you provide the best healing environment and care for your patients, and that is really what we do as well. We want to make buildings more sustainable, comfortable, safe and connected to help deliver desired outcomes,” shared Fadi Kiameh, Account Manager at Johnson Controls.

Founded in 1885, Johnson Controls is committed to making buildings smarter and more efficient. From HVAC, building automation, security, lighting, information technology and communications, specialty systems, networking and more, Johnson Controls is Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare’s chosen partner for supporting the life of the healthcare system’s buildings and, as a result, improving the level of care and comfort offered to the patients, families and caregivers inside them.

Over this 50-year partnership, Johnson Controls has served as a key collaborator and partner to Methodist for both maintaining existing facilities and supporting new construction.

“Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital was really our first technology contracting project, which was big for us, because previous to that, you never heard the words ‘technology contractor’. Since then, it’s just taken off. We did the Methodist Olive Branch Hospital project, and now we are doing Gary Shorb Tower at Methodist University Hospital,” Fadi shared.

Before technology contracting became part of new construction planning, information technology was constructed and planned separately, resulting in a lack of cohesion.

Hunter Hatten, Senior Account Executive in Connected Technologies at Johnson Controls, added, “Leadership at Methodist recognized early on the importance and totality of information technology systems and how they can support the mission.” 

Hunter and the Johnson Controls team are working directly with Methodist leaders, information technology experts, and caregivers in the development and implementation of the technology that will make Gary Shorb Tower at Methodist University Hospital a “smart hospital.”

Johnson Controls’ comprehensive approach to technology in the new building will support Methodist’s vision of creating a state-of-the-art, advanced healing environment that will be relevant for many years to come. 

With Gary Shorb Tower under construction on the same campus where the healthcare system was founded 100 years ago, this project has extra significance to Methodist and to invested partners like Johnson Controls.

The partnership and mission alignment between the two organizations is visible through the buildings they help create and maintain.

“A lot of what the Methodist Foundation does is focused on supporting the community, and that is what Johnson Controls is committed to as well. With Methodist, it has always been ‘what more can we do together for the community’,” Fadi explained.
