Methodist South Hospital will host a Whitehaven Farmers Market every Monday starting July 9 through September 24, Noon to 5 p.m., in front of the Medical Office Complex, located at 1300 Wesley Drive just off Elvis Presley.
“Our community friends are always looking for fresh produce,” said Vickye Ford, manager of Community Development for Methodist South. “Our Farmers Market offers a convenient way for the Whitehaven community to access fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, we’ll offer cooking demonstrations to show how best to prepare these fresh ingredients.”
Vendors include Peachworld, Ripley Produce, Lockard’s Produce, Sweet Elouisa, L & A Farms and Harris Farms.
The University of Tennessee Extension Office will return for a second year to offer cooking demonstrations and share recipe cards. Last year, featured recipes included cantaloupe red pepper alsa, cantaloupe and watermelon salad, fresh salsa, cabbage and pea salad and the most popular peach caprese salad. Delish!
Shoppers can collect a different recipe card each week that lists the ingredients, instructions for cooking and storing and nutrition facts like the calories, sodium and fiber levels.
