Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) officials confirmed the transaction between MLH and West Cancer Center to officially bring their formal partnership to a close has been completed and will be effective later today.
MLH remains steadfastly committed to doing what’s right for patients and families first. As a 100-year-old institution that provided care through nearly 2.2 million patient encounters in 2018, MLH is well positioned to create a new Methodist Cancer Institute in partnership with The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).
“We are truly creating a comprehensive cancer program to ensure every patient within our walls and this community receives the care they need and deserve,” said MLH President & CEO Michael Ugwueke. “Now and in the future, we will continue to provide exceptional cancer care regardless of ability to pay, because that’s our mission.
As MLH pursues its vision of building a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center – one of only 49 in in the country – it will be built on a strong foundation to elevate Education, Research and Clinical services in partnership with UTHSC.
“I am excited about the direction we are headed as we continue our work to bring world-class academic physicians and community physicians together to serve our entire community,” said Ugwueke.
