As the Methodist Olive Branch Hospital prepares for its public grand opening ceremony on August 21 at 10 a.m. at 4250 Bethel Road in Olive Branch, Miss., workers are putting the finishing touches on the 100-bed hospital. One of the many interesting features of the facility is the visually engaging glass that has been installed in the lobby. View Inc., a Silicon Valley company whose manufacturing plant is in Olive Branch, has designed intelligence into architectural glass to automatically transition between clear and variable tint, providing control over the amount of light and heat entering a building. With View Dynamic Glass, there is no need for window coverings, curtains or shades.
“We recognize that natural daylight and views help promote a more comfortable and productive environment for patients, visitors and healthcare professionals,” said Richard Kelley, PE, LEED® AP BD+C, Project Manager, Corporate Facilities Management, and project leader for the Olive Branch Hospital. “However, traditionally large window areas often create excess heat and glare, making occupants uncomfortable, and increase air conditioning costs. With View Dynamic Glass, the occupants can enjoy all the positive aspects of glass without the discomfort.”
Dynamic glass is ideally suited to hospitals and healthcare settings. Design professionals and hospital administrators recognize that natural daylight and outdoor views help speed recovery and improve patient outcomes. View Dynamic Glass provides a continuous view with natural light, and surfaces that wipe clean for superior infection control. This, combined with substantial building energy savings, makes View technology a compelling design choice. View Dynamic Glass is also the first glass of its kind available in dimensions up to 10 feet.
“I am excited that our dynamic glass offers the right aesthetics, commercial-scale sizes, lifetime durability, performance, and intelligent control that a best in class healthcare facility demands, said Jim Miller, Vice President of Worldwide Sales of View Inc. “Healthcare is an important market segment for our product and we are proud to be working with Olive Branch Methodist Hospital.”
