Through Methodist Healthcare’s partnership with West Cancer Center, we’re excited to announce Sylvia Richey, MD, will head up West’s new Integrative Oncology Division. Dr. Richey has been a dedicated medical oncologist with West for over 12 years at both the East Campus in Memphis, Tenn., and the Corinth, Miss., site.
"The launching of our Integrative Oncology Division is another important building block toward our preparation to become a fully comprehensive cancer center. We are grateful that one of our leading medical oncologists has taken on this project with passion and a commitment to put our patients at the heart of all the things we do,” according to Erich Mounce, chief executive officer for West Cancer Center.
While continuing to see breast cancer patients at the Memphis location, Dr. Richey will build a program that complements West Cancer Center's mission to provide comprehensive, compassionate care for cancer patients. The concept of integrative oncology involves combining conventional treatments with supportive therapies. West will supplement its current survivorship and palliative care services with new programs like art therapy, music therapy and acupuncture to enhance the experience for patients.
Dr. Richey sums up the importance of this program to her, to West Cancer Center and most important to our patients." We want our patients to survive and thrive. My vision is to offer a full complement of services that address mind, body and spirit during a cancer journey. I want these services to be integral to the treatment of each patient while advancing the field of integrative medicine through scientific research."
