Academy Award-winning actress, Octavia Spencer, will speak about her life and career at the annual Methodist Cancer Center Luncheon on November 28, 2017 at 11:45 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the Peabody Hotel.
Veteran character actress and one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents, Octavia Spencer has become a familiar fixture on both television and the silver screen. Her critically acclaimed performance as Minny in DreamWork’s feature film The Help won her the 2012 Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, SAG Award and Broadcast Film Critic’s Choice Award, among numerous other accolades.
Spencer can currently be seen in the highly-acclaimed film Hidden Figures, which tells the true story of several African-American women who provide NASA with critical information needed to launch the program’s early successful space missions. Her performance as Dorothy Vaughan has earned her SAG nomination, Golden Globe nomination and NAACP Image Award nominations to date.
Her additional film credits include Gifted, The Divergent Series, Zootopia, Fathers and Daughters, Black or White, Get on Up, Fruitvale Station and many more. Spencer has also guest starred on numerous television series including Mom, The Big Bang Theory, 30 Rock, Ugly Betty, CSI and more. Among her many other professional achievements, Spencer has also co-authored an interactive mystery series for children called Randi Rhodes, Ninja Detective.
Proceeds benefit The WEST Institute for Cancer Research, Methodist Healthcare’s affiliated cancer provider in Memphis, Tennessee.
