Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has been named to the Commercial Appeal’s "Top Work Places" list for 2013. MLH finished second in the large employer category of companies with more than 500 employees. “This is just another indication that what we’re doing to build a strong culture is paying off,” said Gary Shorb, CEO of MLH. “Through our ‘MLH’ Power of One commitments, we are laying a firm foundation. Together, we're not only creating a better experience for patients and families, but were also creating a very special place to work. This is exactly the kind of culture that allows us to operate at our best.”
In addition to the 50 Memphis-area businesses and organizations that received a 2013 Top Workplaces Award, nine workplaces were honored with special awards of merit. MLH received the “Appreciation Award.” Awards of merit were given in categories where companies stood out for exemplary characteristics. Other awards were given for “New Ideas,” “Communication,” “Training,” “Ethics,” “Benefits,” and “Leadership.”
“This is an incredible honor to be included on this list of top workplaces,” said Carol Ross-Spang, senior vice president of Human Resources. “But I think I’m most proud to be recognized as an organization that appreciates our Associates.”
“We know that appreciation is the glue that holds teams together and helps our Associates feel valued, fulfilled and respected.” Ross-Spang added. “Because this award is based solely on Associate input, this award means so much and affirms that together, we are making a difference.”
The newspaper collaborated with the independent research firm, WorkplaceDynamics, to identify companies whose cultures are selected to be among the best. The Top Workplaces were selected based solely on employee feedback. Rankings were categorized by organizations with 35 to 149 employees, 150 to 500 employees, and over-500 employees.
In total, 781 companies were invited to participate and employees of 96 of those companies were surveyed. The surveyed companies employ 66,051 people in the Memphis metropolitan area; 28,594 Memphis employees received surveys and 15,901 responded, either on paper or online. A thousand MLH Associates were randomly selected to participate in the survey.
