Helping mother and baby with breastfeeding is just one way the specially trained nurses at Methodist Healthcare will take care of you during your hospital stay. Most moms and babies are ready to nurse within the first 30 - 60 minutes after birth when baby's sucking instinct is the strongest. A nurse will help you find a comfortable position to begin breastfeeding soon after you deliver. A good start will help you to enjoy the benefits of breastfeeding.

While you are recovering in the hospital, nurses and lactation consultants are available to help you get the hang of breastfeeding, so you will be more comfortable when you and baby go home. Lactation consultants will still be available should you need help after you leave the hospital. You may find that you have breastfeeding questions and need further instruction on breastfeeding during the first few weeks of your baby's life. Contact the lactation office at your Methodist hospital with questions, to make an appointment, or inquire about pump rental or sales.
