The Maternity Center at South Hospital is designed with your comfort and health in mind. You will labor and give birth to your baby in the same Birthing Room located in the Labor and Delivery area on the fifth floor. Should you need a cesarean delivery, the operating suites are within the Labor and Delivery area.
Our Birthing Rooms are large and comfortable with room enough for mom and two support people, with your doctor's permission. You will recover in the Birthing Room for about an hour while getting to know your new baby. You will then move to a comfortable room on the fourth floor for the rest of your hospital stay.
Keeping baby in the room is a great way to become comfortable taking care of your new loved one. If necessary, the baby can spend a few hours in the nursery. For those few babies who are very small, premature, or ill at birth, we have neonatologists and a highly trained nursing staff in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Visiting hours in the NICU are based on each baby's condition and needs.
Your Guests
We know how important it is for your family and friends to be close by, so guests are welcome at any time. Baby's brothers and sisters of any age are welcome, too, but be sure they are not sick and there is an adult available to care for them. Other children are welcome to visit if they are at least two years old and free of illness. We want your baby's birthday to be special!
