How long will my procedure take?
You should plan for your surgical experience to take approximately 3-4 hours, from admission to discharge. This is an average; however, some procedures may take more or less time.
Why does someone need to stay here with me while I am having the surgery performed?
In the event of an emergency, we need someone here that can make decisions on your behalf or can reach someone else who can. You will also need for someone to drive you home after the surgery and remain with you for 24 hours.
Once I get home, will I need additional help to complete my recovery?
Generally, your recovery should proceed well after you leave the surgery center. You may be inclined to sleep the rest of the day following your surgery. To ensure your safety, please plan to have someone with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure. Refer to the written instructions given to you upon discharge. If you have additional questions, please contact your surgeon.
Why should I avoid eating food or drinking alcohol before my surgery?
This is to ensure your safety during the surgery. By avoiding food and beverages, you can reduce the risk of aspirating your stomach contents during the surgery.
