What is the EAP?

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a professional counseling service provided at no cost to the employees of companies contracting for EAP services. The EAP provides confidential help for employees and eligible family members (legal dependents) who may need a professional to talk with about day-to-day challenges or difficult times. EAP counselors have a master's degree and are certified licensed professionals.

How can an EAP counselor help?
The EAP professionals can help with just about any of life's concerns, including:

  • Family issues
  • Marital/relationship difficulties
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Coping with major life events, such as job loss, relocation and serious illness
  • Grieving the loss of a loved one
  • Coping with violence
  • Improving self-esteem
  • Managing the stress of everyday life
  • Child/adolescent issues
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Elder & child care referrals

Who can use the EAP?
You, family members (dependents) and your fellow co-workers can all use EAP. You don't have to be in the company medical plan to use the EAP.

What is the cost?
It's free to you as a benefit prepaid by your company.

How does it work?
You or a family member may call the EAP to make an appointment with a counselor. Counselors are caring, understanding professionals with extensive counseling experience. You and the counselor will discuss the situation and create a plan of action to resolve it. Most situations can be handled at the EAP with short-term counseling provided free by the company.

Is my information confidential?
EAP services are private and confidential. For full information on our privacy practices, please read the EAP Privacy Notice.
