Wound care includes evaluation of a wound and identification of underlying causes that have the potential to interfere with wound healing. Some factors that interfere with healing include vascular disease, infection, diabetes or other metabolic disorders, immuno-suppression, unrelieved pressure, radiation injury and malnutrition. Interaction of these factors can affect the course of treatment.
Our staff works in conjunction with physicians to restore the integrity of damaged tissue. The wound will be evaluated, cleansed and dressed to provide an optimal climate for healing
Insurance Coverage
For wound care services to be covered by insurance, the service must be reasonable and necessary, safe and effective, require the skill of the therapist and be provided in the appropriate setting. To continue wound care services for an individual patient on a particular wound, a therapist must document evidence in the patient’s record that the wound is improving in response to the care provided. A wound that shows no improvement after 30 days requires a change in the plan of care. This includes physician reassessment of underlying infection, which may test metabolic, nutritional or vascular problems inhibiting wound healing.
