We know how important good health is, which is why our staff treats you like the miracle that you are. The following are a few frequently asked questions about the procedure. Please discuss any questions that you have with your physician.
How does the therapy work?
The body therapy treats tumors of the spine, lungs and liver. Patients are put on a table and equipment helps them remain as still as possible (which allows for pin-point accuracy). A machine called a linear accelerator delivers the radiation to the exact spot, within millimeters, which destroys the abnormal tissue and keeps the healthy tissue intact.
Does the procedure hurt?
The procedure is painless. Radiation beams are used to shrink the tumors - no surgery is involved.
Will my insurance cover this procedure?
Methodist Healthcare is contracted with a large number of employers in the Mid-South, along with Medicare and other governmental insurance. The best way to determine if you are covered is to contact your insurance company directly. The physician's office can also help you with this process.
