Hospice
Nurse

We embrace the belief that the end of life doesn’t have to mean the end of living. Since 1979, we have offered care and comfort to individuals and their families who are facing life’s final journey. As one of the first in the nation to receive Medicare certification, we continue to ease the end of life transition for families on a daily basis.

Hospice services are provided by an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, home health aids and volunteers who understand that when it can’t be about curing, it must be about caring. Care that includes not only medical needs, but the emotional and spiritual concerns of the patient and their family members. This devoted care is guided by our leading principal:

Faithful care of the dying is part of our stewardship of the divine gift of life.

Some facts about our program:

  • Methodist Healthcare is one of the few not-for-profit hospitals in the region, and no one is turned away due to their inability to pay.
  • We serve Shelby, Tipton, Fayette counties in Tennessee and the North Mississippi counties of DeSoto, Tunica, Tate and Marshall.
  • Methodist Hospice is the only one in the region to staff a full-time medical director who is board-certified in palliative medicine, along with five staff physicians who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Each year, Methodist Hospice offers Camp Bravehearts, a grief camp for children in the region who have experienced the death of a loved one. Bereavement consultation and services are available to anyone in the greater Memphis community.
  • We provide care to anyone who has been diagnosed with any terminal illness and meet hospice criteria: heart, liver, renal, or pulmonary disease, Alzheimer’s and dementia, cancer, AIDS, Lou Gehrig’s disease and generalized debility and decline in the very elderly.

All it takes is one telephone call from your doctor to begin our Hospice services. Hospice care is provided in homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or wherever the patient lives. Our staff evaluates all patients to assure that eligibility criteria are met. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, TennCare and many commercial insurances. Our office bills the insurance provider and handles the filing of all your claims. No patient is ever refused care based on ability to pay.
