PET Imaging

A PET scanner is similar to a CT scanner, acting like a camera that produces powerful images of cells and organ systems in the body.  This powerful technology eliminates the need for multiple testing and is a highly effective tool in the fight against cancer.

How does PET Imaging help physicians?

· Locates tumors not visible on other imaging equipment
· Indicates malignancy
· Helps diagnose and stage cancer
· Indicates if cancer has spread
· Helps determine if treatment is working

In March 2001, Methodist Healthcare was the first to bring this technology to Memphis with the opening of the PET Imaging Center at 1388 Madison Avenue.
