A specialized team of professionals is involved in cancer treatments at Methodist Healthcare. The radiation oncologist (a physician) prescribes the type and amount of treatment, while working closely with the other physicians and health care professionals involved in a patient's care.
The Radiation Oncologists on our team are:
Nilesh Dubal, M.D.
Michael Farmer, M.D.
Holger Gieschen M.D.
Lois Mastrofrancesco, M.D.
Lillian Rinker, M.D.
Todd Stockstill, M.D.
Other highly-trained members of our health care team include:
-
The radiation physicist, who makes sure the equipment is working properly and that the machines deliver the right dose of radiation. The physicist also works closely with the patient's physician to plan the treatment.
-
The dosimetrist, who works under the direction of the physician and the radiation physicist, helps carry out the treatment plan by calculating the amount of radiation to be delivered to the cancer.
-
The radiation therapist, who positions the patient for treatments, controls the equipment that delivers the radiation.
-
The radiation nurse, who coordinates patient care, teaches patients about their treatments and how to manage side effects. The nurse also answers questions patients or family members have about treatments.
