A diagnosis of cancer can place stress on everyone it touches. Sharing with other survivors and their loved ones can often help you cope with the fear and doubt the illness has created in your life. The Methodist Healthcare Cancer Center is proud to be involved with several area support groups, including the Memphis Regional Brain Tumor Support Group, Reach to Recovery, The Cancer Survivors Network and more.
FACES (Families Adapting To Cancer Through Education and Support)
Through FACES (Families Adapting To Cancer Through Education and Support), the Methodist Cancer Center staff hopes to provide cancer survivors and their family members the information they need for mutual caring, awareness, education and encouragement.
The FACES brochure is full of helpful information and resources for finding hospital, community, or national support services.

Spiritual Support
We recognize at the Cancer Center that a diagnosis of cancer can alter life perspective and result in powerful self-reflection. The result is that patients and families may feel overwhelmed by thoughts on the meaning of life, suffering, hope, forgiveness and reconciliation. Seeking greater understanding and strength, many people revisit their spiritual roots or religious faith in search of answers.
During a time of crisis, people often turn to their spirituality or religious faith to foster hope and provide inner strength. At the Cancer Center, we affirm each person's unique way of experiencing God or some other higher power. The patients and families of the Cancer Center are encouraged to help make staff aware of religious beliefs and practices that bring comfort, reassurance and peace.
Since no one can predict when the moment of need may arise, the Appleby Memorial Chapel is located on 3 Crews in the Cancer Center at Methodist University Hospital and is available at any time of the day or night. Made possible through a generous gift, the chapel serves as a place to meditate, pray, or listen for a still, small voice.
The Cancer Center staffs a board-certified chaplain who specializes in oncology, who works with a diverse faith community, striving to find connections for our patients and their families. To speak with the oncology Chaplain, call 901.516.7052.
