A "hospital within a hospital," the Methodist Extended Care Hospital specializes in the treatment of medically complex wound care, low intensity rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation and ventilator weaning.

We are able to deliver most medical care directly at the bedside. This arrangement offers increased patient comfort and convenience and allows patients and families to be more involved in care.

Located in the Thomas Wing of Methodist University Hospital, MECH operates as a separate facility, where most patients stay 10-25 days. The care given by the 36-bed, acute care hospital staff ensures a smooth transition from hospital to home, skilled care, nursing home, rehabilitation facility or home health care.

Because of longer lengths of stay and lower patient to nurse ratios, Associates have the opportunity to develop a close, trusting and healing relationship with the patient and their families.
