A long time Methodist nurse, Lucy Parson couldn’t see herself anywhere else. A recovery room and same day surgery nurse, she's been at Methodist South Hospital for 20 years, and before that, she worked at Methodist University Hospital for 16.
"I love my job," Lucy said. "It gives me creativity with each patient because I'm able to attend to their needs individually. I love the freedom I have with each of them. If they want me to pray with them or just sit with them, I can do it."
The 57-year-old said that freedom wouldn't be possible without the confidence and respect of her supervisors and administration.
"I get plenty of support from management, and I love it."
Not only are relationships good between peers and leaders, there is mutual respect and value with the medical staff.
"We have a really good relationship with the physicians," Lucy said. "They listen to us because they trust what we know. They show us respect and you feel like you're part of a team that's providing care to patients."
Lucy said her love of Methodist is not just from a health care provider perspective, but from a patient point of view as well.
"I just had a total knee replacement," Lucy said. "Everyone treated me well, and I received the best of care. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else for treatment. I think we have the latest technology and the best people around."
She said a part of that is professional development opportunities offered at and supported by Methodist.
"We have continuing education classes," Lucy said. "We have educational opportunities that give nurses the confidence to provide and exceed the level of care expected by patients. I really like that about Methodist."
