Hundreds of students gathered at St. Columba Episcopal Center in Bartlett to participate in National Day of Service. One of the community projects students could take part in was painting blocks that will be combined to make a mural that will be hung in Outpatient Rehab on the campus of Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital.
Fifth graders from Mrs. Scarlett Marsh’s class from New Hope Christian Academy enjoyed their day of community service. “It felt good to meet new people and do projects that will make people happy,” said Nicholas Martin.
Mrs. Marsh’s students painted symbols of Fruits of the Spirit portraying including joy, patience, love, peace and kindness. “I picked the Fruits of the Spirit scripture from Galatians 5:22-23 because when all these blocks are assembled together they represent working together for God and using the gifts he has given us to make a difference and everyone of us can make a difference.”
Other schools that participated in National Day of Service included St.George’s Independent School, Grace-Saint Luke’s Episcopal School, and St. Mary’s Episcopal School.
