As we continue to watch the tragedy in Haiti unfold, know that Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is staying true to our legacy of care and fulfilling our sacred obligation to serve people in need. While there is always more that can be done, here is a quick look at some of our efforts to help the people of Haiti.
Pediatric Support
Le Bonheur Childrens has been asked by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide medical assistance to Haiti. Le Bonheur staff organizing supplies and pharmaceuticals to be delivered to Haiti.
Two pediatric medical teams have also been requested—a surgical critical care team and a critical care transport team. The three-person Le Bonheur transport team will consist of a registered nurse, paramedic and respiratory therapist. Surgeons, anesthesiologists, critical care physicians, critical care nurses and respiratory therapists are being identified for the surgical critical care transport team.
Adult Relief
Our Senior Vice President of International Healthcare Services, David Baytos, is leading our efforts in supporting Haiti. We have already responded to a request last Friday from the Rose Family Foundation and joined with other local healthcare organizations to ship much-needed healthcare supplies to a clinic in Haiti run by Memphis physician, Dr. Gordon Kraus. The supplies were gathered quickly and shipped via FedEx on Tuesday and were delivered with a military escort to the Haiti Medical Mission of Memphis on Wednesday. We are continuing to identify ways in which we can support the people of Haiti.
What can you do to help?
Along with prayers, there are a number of highly competent, trustworthy organizations in Haiti that invest money quickly and wisely. If you are connected to one of those organizations, we encourage you to be generous. If you do not know one, we can assure you that we will be working closely to support the efforts of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
Financial gifts may be directed to Haiti Relief through our own Methodist Healthcare Foundation by calling 901.516.0500. Cash, checks, credit cards and PTO are acceptable.
You may also choose to donate directly to UMCOR securely online.
Thank you for your spirit of healing and the compassion you continue to show to those in need.
