Jason Vanatta, M.D., has joined the surgical staff of Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute. Dr. Vanatta will also be a member of UT Medical Group, Inc., and will serve as an assistant professor in the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Department Of Surgery.
Dr. Vanatta is from Stanford University, in Palo Alto, Calif., where he was a fellow in multi-organ abdominal transplantation surgery. While at Stanford, he also served as a clinical instructor in general surgery for two years.
“We’re excited to have Dr. Vanatta join our surgical staff,” said James Eason, M.D., Program Director of Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute. “We feel very fortunate to have attracted someone with his training and accomplishments.”
Dr. Vanatta holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with an emphasis in molecular biology from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a bachelor’s in philosophy from Boston University. He received his medical degree from the MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine, part of Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Vanatta’s postgraduate training includes work as an intern and resident in general surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Waco, Texas. His professional memberships include the Michael E. Debakey International Surgical Society and the American College of Surgeons.
“Dr. Vanatta’s presence on our surgical staff will benefit our patients and our transplant program,” said Eason. “The Transplant Institute has always been a leader in its field and I’m confident that with Dr. Vanatta on board we’ll continue to work toward our goal of being recognized as one of the top transplant programs in the country.”
