Methodist South Hospital is making it easier than ever to get a screening mammogram. The hospital began offering no appointment necessary mammograms this summer and has now performed screening mammograms on more than 100 walk-in patients.
Screening mammography is a low dose X-ray examination consisting of two views of each breast and is for patients who do not have physical breast cancer symptoms following self exams. The procedure usually takes about 10 minutes and is performed by a registered radiologic technologist. The ACS recommends women age 40 and older get a mammogram every year.
“Offering screening mammograms without having to schedule an appointment has been a huge benefit for both our patients and our physicians,” said Michael Ugwueke, CEO/Administrator of Methodist South Hospital. “Offering patients and physicians ease of access to this important diagnostic service is another way for us to continue improving patient care in the community we serve.”
Screening mammograms are performed at the Methodist Diagnostic Center located within Methodist South Hospital. Mammograms are performed Monday thru Friday from 8 am – 5 pm. Patients should check-in at the outpatient registration desk located on the first floor. A physician referral is needed.
