Methodist South Hospital administrator, Dr. Michael Ugwueke has been appointed to serve on the Memphis Academy of Health Sciences (MAHS) Middle School Board and has been appointed to the Tennessee General Assembly’s Black Health Care Commission.
Dr. Ugwueke accepts these two appointments with over 20 years experience in the health care industry with a special emphasis on strategic planning, quality improvements, operations, and customer service. Recognizing the importance of relationships with physicians and the community, Dr. Ugwueke works to develop those relationships, to the benefit all members of the Memphis community.
“Methodist Healthcare is committed to improving the health and well being of our communities and I am honored to be asked to serve on these boards that are truly making a difference in our community,” said Dr. Ugwueke.
Dr. Ugwueke earned his doctorate in Health Administration and Leadership from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, a masters degree in Public Health with concentration in planning from Emory University, and his bachelors degree in pre-med/biology from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Memphis Academy of Health Sciences Middle School aims to equip students with the necessary skills to be competitive in the 21st Century. It is the mission of MAHS for its students to demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak and calculate with clarity and precision. The successful transition to high school is the school’s primary goal for all students.
The Tennessee Black Health Care Commission (BHCC) works to serve and empower underserved communities, specifically African Americans, by guaranteeing access to the highest attainable standards of health care. The BHCC, through partnerships with members of the community, diligently strives to achieve this goal.
