Methodist Fayette Hospital Installs New Diagnostic Equipment
|
|
Methodist Fayette Hospital recently expanded its diagnostic imaging capabilities with the addition of a mobile GE 1.0T short bore MRI machine. The hospital received approval from the Health Services and Development Agency to provide outpatient MRI scans through the mobile MRI one day per week on the Fayette Hospital campus.
“At this time there are no mobile or fixed MRI services in Fayette Hardeman or Haywood counties,” said David Crislip, administrator of Methodist Fayette Hospital. “Fayette County is the third fastest growing county in the state and we are pleased to offer this service to our expanding community.”
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan provides detailed images of the soft tissues by using a magnetic field and radio waves, allowing physicians to view the spine or brain in a layer-by-layer “sliced” format. A short bore MRI is also more tolerable to patients that may be claustrophobic since it is about half the length of a standard MRI and does not completely enclose the patient.
“We experience a significant demand for MRI services,” said Crislip. “A number of our patients choose to drive to Jackson or Memphis to have these tests performed. “This is an incredible convenience for the community and allows our patients to receive a full service of healthcare needs close to home.”
MRI scans are performed every Friday. A physician referral is needed. To schedule an appointment, please call 901-516-4030.
