Hospice Residence Requests Extension

Tomorrow the Health Services and Development Agency for the State of Tennessee will vote on an extension to the existing Certificate of Need (CON) to build a residential hospice.

Methodist was granted a CON in 2007 that gave the health system one year to begin work on the project. The extension will allow Methodist to build a LEED-certified facility, which would make it environmentally friendly, and to allow for the economic impact on construction costs.

If granted, Methodist will break ground in November 2009 on a 30-bed facility with six acres on Quince Road between Messick and Kirby.

The Methodist Hospice Residence will provide acute care for those who require symptom and pain management as well as short-term residential beds for those who cannot be cared for in their homes.

“When it can’t be about the curing, it must still be about the caring,” said Graves, president of Affiliated Services, a division of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. “The Methodist Hospice Residence will be a special place for embracing the miracle of life.”

As a community asset, the residence will offer educational rooms, a library and a bereavement center open to all adults and children throughout the region.

Methodist Hospice will use a combination of funds from Methodist Healthcare and private donations to build the residence.
