Rolando Toyos, M.D., medical director and founder of Toyos Clinic is now performing cataract removal surgeries at Methodist Fayette Hospital.

Affecting more than 20 million Americans over age 40, cataracts are caused by a clouding of the ocular lens which can make objects look blurred and/or impair night vision. Dr. Toyos uses a procedure known as AquaLase, the latest technology in cataract surgery. During the surgery the cataract is dissolved using warm pulses of solution that wash away the lens layer by layer. Once the damaged lens is removed it is replaced with a new lens. The procedure can be done on an outpatient basis and doesn’t require shots or stitches.

Dr. Toyos received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his master’s from Stanford University. He received his medical degree from the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Northwestern University and Chicago Children’s Hospital.
