Mission
The mission of the Methodist University Hospital School of Nuclear Medicine Technology program, in partnership with its medical, technical, and educational staff, is to prepare students to graduate with above average entry-level competency in Nuclear Medicine Technology. In addition, students will be taught and encouraged to provide effective, compassionate care giving to all patients throughout their careers. The clinical and didactic educational experiences will be in accordance with the Essentials and Guidelines for an Accredited Educational Program for the Nuclear Medicine Technologist; thus qualifying the student to sit for nationally recognized examinations.
Goals
- Graduate students will be clinically and didactically competent and able to apply their knowledge and perform imaging procedures as appropriate for an entry-level Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- Graduate students will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, critical thinking, and problem solving skills necessary for professional practice.
- Graduate students will be marketable in today's medical imaging environment.
- Qualified students will graduate and meet the professional needs of the community.
Professional Duties
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is a highly specialized healthcare professional who works closely with the nuclear medicine physician.
Some of the technologist's primary responsibilities include:
- Preparing and administering radioactive chemical compounds, known as radiopharmaceuticals
- Performing diagnostic patient imaging procedures using radiation-detecting instrumentation
- Providing images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation
General Information
- Fifteen month educational program
- All didactic courses taught at Methodist Facilities and their clinical affiliates
- Clinical Education provided by multiple sites throughout the Memphis area
- Upon completion of the program, the student is eligible to sit for national Registration/Certification examinations in Nuclear Medicine Technology
Methodist University Hospital Schools of Radiologic and Imaging Sciences has a document of articulation with Arkansas State University. With a minimal 2.0 cumulative GPA, graduates from the Methodist program will document 24 credit hours at ASU toward the Bachelor of Radiological Sciences degree. The hours are in addition to any other hours awarded for Radiologic Technology program.

Fees and Expenses

Tuition
$4,500 for 15 month JRCNMT-Accredited Program
Deferred tuition/tuition payback programs are available to all students

Approximately $850 for all books and related educational materials
Students must independently purchase ALL required books prior to the beginning of classes.

Students are directly responsible for the cost of their meals, clothing, laundry, transportation, housing accommodations, and other 'living' expenses. Parking at all Methodist facilities is provided free of charge for enrolled students.
School of Nuclear Medicine Admissions Information and Requirements:
An equal opportunity is offered to each applicant regardless of sex, race, religion, or origin.
Applications are accepted for consideration from May 1 through postmark of October 1 of the year of application. Students are selected in Novemberand admitted to the program in January of each year.
Since enrollment is limited, preference is given to applicants with superior educational background. All applicants are screened and the most outstanding and qualified candidates are accepted.
Admissions Pre-Requisites:
Applicant must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology
- Be a registered or registry-eligible Radiologic Technologist
- If applicant is a student in a Radiologic Technology program, he/she must complete RT program PRIOR to August 1st
- Satisfy and provide proof of all published didactic pre-requisites
In addition to being an R.T. [or eligible or in-training], applicants must complete post-secondary didactic courses in areas of:
- human anatomy and physiology
- physics
- mathematics
- medical terminology
- computer applications
- oral and written communications
- general chemistry
Applicant must:

Complete scheduled interviews with Educational Program's Admissions Committee.

Submit to and pass a physical examination and drug screen as administered by the Associate Health Department of Methodist University Hospital.

Be in satisfactory physical, mental, and emotional health as determined by the Methodist University Hospital Associate Health Department.

Meet technical standards for performing duties of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist as established by the administration of the School of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Assure all application materials are received by School of NMT by stated deadline.

In the event an applicant has been or is employed by Methodist Healthcare, he/she must have a positive rehire eligibility status in order to gain final acceptance into the NMT program.
Applicants who meet the above requirements will be informed of acceptance for consideration for admission. Those who do not meet the requirements will be notified as well.
NOTE: The Admissions Committee reserves the right, in every case, to reject any applicant whose educational background, attitude, motivation, health, personality, and/or character do not indicate likelihood of success as determined by interviews, transcripts, examinations, and/or references.

- Ability to perform manipulative skills (positioning and assisting patients)
- Ability to perform tasks requiring eye-hand coordination
- Ability to perform tasks requiring satisfactory visual and auditory acuity
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers
- Ability to protect self and others from unnecessary radiation exposure
- Medical documentation indicating physical and mental ability to perform tasks above
