Sponsored by the University of Tennessee Departments of Internal Medicine and Surgery, the transitional year program also works closely with the Department of Radiology. During their transitional year, residents receive supervision from a close-knit organization of qualified and experienced full-time consultant faculty and senior residents. The Department of Internal Medicine provides at least six months of each resident's clinical experience. For more information on program oversight of the Transitional and sponsored programs, please see the Institutional Policy On Resident Supervision page at UT Memphis.
Residents also have access to clinical skills training through the radiology, surgery and obstetrics and gynecology departments. Responsible for maintaining records according to the transitional year institutional policy, the program director with the help of the institutional coordination committee organizes the educational experience of residents. A governing body responsible for monitoring the program activities, the committee meets every three months and has a transitional resident representative.
Our residency program offers our residents exposure to a wide spectrum of illnesses and a large core of medical knowledge. By the end of the year, transitional residents are well prepared to start training in their chosen specialties.
