Bernard
Bernard

Each week a special program is offered for children who are scheduled for surgery at our facilitites. You and your child are invited to learn more about what it is like to have surgery. Conducting the program at the medical center is Bernard, a puppet who helps children understand about being in the hospital. Your child will have the chance to "play doctor" with Bernard.
Your child will quickly come to recognize the little green puppet as a friend and ally as he visits you to offer words of encouragement and empathy. He has had every medical test and illness imaginable, so any child can identify with him. By becoming a child's best buddy, he is able to share his or her fears, tears and feelings.
He will help your child understand expect before surgery. Dressing up like doctors and nurses, your child will assist Bernard through surgery in order to understand the surgery experience.  By knowing what to expect at the hospital or surgery center, your child will be able to cope better with his or her stay.
