Pulmonology

We provide multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient services for infants and children with acute and chronic respiratory problems, including:

  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Asthma
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD)
  • Congenital lung abnormalities
  • Neuromuscular respiratory diseases
  • Chronic respiratory failure/insufficiency
  • Pulmonary sleep disorders

Our patients receive comprehensive care from our physicians, registered respiratory therapists, certified nurse practitioners, nutritionists and social workers. We are committed to providing outstanding patient care, instructing young physicians and nurses and researching pulmonary diseases and treatments.

Our Programs
Our pulmonology service offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for acute and chronic respiratory disorders in infants, children and adolescents.
Bronchoscopy Clinic
Children with recurrent pneumonia, chronic wheezing or other airway problems are often referred to the Bronchoscopy Clinic for diagnosis and evaluation of underlying causes. Pediatric pulmonary specialists perform bronchoscopies to confirm the diagnosis and suggest an appropriate treatment plan. The procedure requires sedation, and children are carefully monitored post-procedure by the clinic staff.
Camp Wezbegon
Camp Wezbegon is a fun-filled, week-long summer camp where children with asthma can take part in outdoor activities such as swimming, nature study, hiking and a rope course. For most children with asthma, poor health makes it impossible to attend other summer camps. While the focus of camp is to have fun, the children also attend a daily class on asthma management. The camp is made possible through generous funding from the Seabrook family.
Pulmonary Function Clinic
The Pulmonary Function Clinic is a diagnostic and evaluation tool providing valuable clinical information to the pediatric pulmonologists at Le Bonheur. The clinic is conducted by a specially trained respiratory therapist and a registered nurse. In the clinic, children with chronic lung diseases are sedated so measurements of lung capacity can be determined.
Multidisciplinary Care Team
You and your child will interact with many of these team members during your visit and in the future. After your child's initial visit, he or she will be assigned to a primary pulmonary attending physician. Your child may also be assigned to an advanced practice nurse or fellow.
