Srinivasan joins pulmonology team

Le Bonheur's pediatric pulmonology team has a new member. Dr. Saumini Srinivasan has joined UT Medical Group, Inc., with a special interest in exercise stress testing.

Srinivasan said she was attracted to Memphis because of the opportunity to practice a wide-range of clinical pulmonology while being able to pursue research interests. She is especially interested in exercise stress testing - assessing lung function when children and adolescents have discomfort exercising.

Consider the high school athlete who has trouble during a workout. Srinivasan might want to check lung function prior to exercise, let the athlete run on the treadmill, and then check lung function after exercise. The testing can help determine whether the athlete has asthma, or some other  lung problem. Srinivasan hopes to work partner with cardiologist Dr. Vijay Joshi, who runs the Exercise Stress Testing Lab.

Srinivasan also has a special interest in researching lung involvement in patients with sickle cell disease and the long-term effects of chemotherapy on the lungs. Le Bonheur's partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital made Memphis a perfect fit for her.

Srinivasan is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the sub-board for Pediatric Pulmonology. She completed her medical training at the University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, in Delhi, India. She completed a residency with the Department of Pediatrics in Delhi, and also with the Department of Pediatrics at the UCLA Medical Center, UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles.

She completed a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine.

Srinivasan's office is located in the Physician Office Building at 777 Washington Ave. in Memphis and 7945 Wolf River Blvd. in Germantown, Tenn. To make an appointment, call 1-866-278-4966.
