  Safe Tweens Photography Contest 2008

Mid-South tweens get your cameras ready. Safe Kids Mid-South is hosting a Safe Tweens photography contest to celebrate Safe Kids Week 2008. Children between the ages of 9 and 12 are invited to take photos of situations they consider safe and those they consider unsafe. Through a one page response, tweens are invited to write what the photographs mean to them. The winning entries will be on display at Safe Kids and Families FunFest at Bass Pro Shops on April 26.

"We hope to strengthen Tweens' awareness of their own safety and to see what they see as safe and unsafe situations, environments and behavior in the community in which they live, go to school and play," said Susan Helms, director of injury prevention and Safe Kids Mid-South.

The contest is open to individual tweens and also to classes.  Each child should complete their work under the supervision of a parent, teacher or other adult (family member, minister, etc.) Topics should include fire and burn prevention, motor vehicle safety, pedestrian safety, water safety and wheeled sports safety. Photographs are due to Safe Kids Mid- South on Tuesday, April 15. Contest rules and parental consent form are available by clicking here.

Safe Kids Mid-South, headquartered at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center, is part of a global campaign dedicated solely to the prevention of accidental injuries to children age 14 and under - the number one health risk children face today.  Safe Kids Mid-South raises awareness about preventing injury, provides information and skills to make the environment safer, and helps pass laws for children's safety.
