Hospital Medicine

Founded in 2004, the Department of Hospital Medicine is a growing clinical team of physicians, advanced care nurse practitioners, and physician assistants specializing in the care of hospitalized patients.  At our academic campus, Methodist University Hospital, our hospitalists train medical students and internal medicine residents from the University of Tennessee and consistently win teaching awards for their efforts. Across our five adult hospital campuses, the team is highly integrated as leaders in quality, safety, innovation, and patient experience initiatives.

Our hospitalists are highly skilled, board certified internal medicine physicians who specialize in navigating the complex healthcare system.  These physicians practice in the hospital setting, which allows them to devote all attention to timely and thorough care of our hospitalized patients and their families. They work closely with primary care physicians and specialty consultants to provide coordinated, evidence-based care.  Hospitalists also partner with social workers and case managers to anticipate and address our patients ' post-discharge care needs, facilitate insurance approvals, coordinate follow up appointments, and provide medication assistance where needed. Knowing that being a patient in the hospital can be a stressful, demanding experience, our hospitalists seek to be agents of comfort, hope, and healing while providing high quality, compassionate care.
