Volunteering & Fundraising

"We must do small things for one another with great love." - Mother Teresa

Volunteer Information

As a volunteer for Methodist Hospice, you can live those words. Methodist Hospice volunteers come from all walks of life and for many different reasons. Some are students, some retirees. Some come for the spiritual reasons or to repay hospice for services a loved one received. A hospice volunteer's value is measured through the heart.

As a Methodist Hospice volunteer you can:

  • Offer companionship to patients and respite to their caregivers.
  • Offer telephone support and home visits to families after the death of their loved one.
  • Assist patients in relaxation and enjoyment or maintain the hospice music library.
  • Help with a variety of clerical tasks in the Methodist Hospice office.
  • Help with mailings, holiday events, development, fundraising, Camp BraveHearts, the children's grief camp, and much more.

Become a Methodist Hospice volunteer by:

  • Calling the volunteer manager to request an application.
  • Participating in an interview.
  • Completing an eight hour training course.
  • Committing to serve for one year, approximately three to four hours per assignment and attend two approved in-services per year.

Fundraising

Hospice care is the choice terminally ill patients make when they choose to die outside the traditional hospital setting with the support of friends, family and a team of healthcare professionals. Our unique blend of compassion and skill help patients live each day with comfort and dignity, retain control over their lives, and discover renewed meaning and purpose as life draws to a close. No patient is ever turned away based upon their ability to pay for services. Our mission has always been and will always be to offer hospice care to anyone with a terminal illness, regardless of their financial situation.

Your meaningful gift, no matter what size, will be critically important in providing hope, care, and dignity to the dying. It is also vital to the growth and development of our Hospice services, such as Camp BraveHearts, our grief camp for children who have experienced the death of a loved one, and other community-based bereavement programs and support groups.

Share the Care

Methodist Hospice is frequently in need of personal care items for our Home Hospice and Residential patients.

"Many of the homes we go into don't even have a washcloth, soap, or shaving cream,” explains Mary Hudspeth, Hospice Aide Supervisor. "These items we take for granted are seen as a luxury in many of our patient’s homes.”

We need help in providing these everyday items so that we can provide the best personal care and bring comfort to our patients during their final days.

“This is a great project for a church group, Boy or Girl Scout troops, or individuals who want to share," said Hudspeth.
