Transitional Residency

Methodist Healthcare has provided outstanding graduate medical training to new physicians for more than 60 years. Contributing to our position as one of the top teaching hospitals in the country is our fundamental commitment to educating residents to evidence-based medicine in a real-world environment. As a result of that commitment, we have a program renowned for patient care, resident satisfaction and academic performance.

Methodist Healthcare offers a variety of opportunities within the transitional residency program.

The transition Year residency program is a one-year program that allows residents to complete intern-level requirements with fundamental clinical skills and give them experience in a sampling of specialties, including general surgery, intensive care medicine, emergency medicine, and internal medicine. TY residents usually match to other advanced programs without a PGY1 level internship. The TY program is not a categorical program in itself. Med students interested in applying to the TY program must do so via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
