Iconic film and television actor and dedicated activist in the fight against cancer, Rob Lowe will speak about his life and career and his family’s struggles with cancer at the annual Methodist Cancer Center Luncheon on November 21, 2014 at 11:45am at the Peabody Hotel.

A celebrated actor, Rob Lowe made his feature film debut in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders. He went on to star in other popular films such as St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, Wayne’s World, Tommy Boy, Behind the Candelabra, The Invention of Lying, Thank You for Smoking, Oxford Blues, and Mulholland Falls. He has also been successful with highly-rated television miniseries such as Salem’s Lot and The Stand.
Lowe has also appeared in many highly acclaimed television series including Brothers & Sisters and Parks and Recreation. One of his most popular roles was Sam Seaborn on the hit drama The West Wing. During this time, the show won a record four consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Drama, and Lowe garnered an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He was nominated three times for the Screen Actors Guild award, winning twice. His most recent project, playing President John F. Kennedy in Killing Kennedy on the National Geographic Channel, broke a record to become the network’s most watched telecast.
Off-screen, Lowe is a dedicated activist in the fight against cancer. With a family history of the disease – his mother, his grandmother and great grandmother all battled breast cancer and his father is a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor – Lowe works to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of continued support for cancer survivors.
