Patient & Family-Centered Care

The Methodist Minor Meds and Le Bonheur Urgent Care Centers in Memphis and the Mid South are turning our focus towards Patient & Family-Centered Care. When PFCC was first mentioned in the outpatient setting, the big question was," How do we make this work in a Minor Med or Urgent Care Center?" There is still lots to do, but we are excited about changes that have been made and are continuing to occur to make our patients and their families feel more involved in their healthcare.
We are excited about having patient and/or family partners help us create this environment by giving their feedback and suggestions. Here are some of the changes you can expect to see in the coming months:
We want patients and their families to feel involved in their care and to leave the clinics knowing what you need to know about the diagnosis given and any instructions or medications prescribed. Our goal is for you and your family to understand your own healthcare more than ever and feel like you make decisions in your care.
The Le Bonheur Urgent Care Centers have volunteers in each location to entertain the children and assist the staff or family members however they can. This includes assisting a parent that may need help with a sibling while one child is being seen by the doctor. They also help get the children signed up to receive free books to encourage reading as early as possible and help parents have the resources they need. Parents will also be able to receive information about understanding their child's lab work and any procedures they undergo.
We are all striving in to become the best that we can for you. We are still looking for patient and family partners to help us on this journey. If you are interested in becoming a patient or family partner, please contact April Jackson, our Customer Service Program Manager.
