Signature HealthCARE and Methodist Healthcare Partner to Enhance Skilled-nursing Unit

Signature HealthCARE has partnered with Methodist Healthcare, in Memphis, Tenn., to purchase its skilled-nursing unit in Methodist University Hospital in mid-town Memphis. The sale was effective March 1, 2013.

The 20-bed unit employs a staff of more than 20 people, including nurses, CNAs and other clinical and administrative staff. The unit expands on a long-standing partnership between the hospital and Signature’s three Memphis-area nursing homes.

Signature’s goal in partnering with Methodist is to better meet the needs of the hospital and enhance the overall continuum of care. With landmark health care legislation being implemented, health care providers will need to become more closely integrated with the goals of improved patient outcomes and reduced health care costs.

The partnership between Methodist Signature marks a step toward achieving those objectives and sets the stage for an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) or bundled payment model. This is expected to be the first of several similar partnerships between Signature and other acute-care hospitals.

“As health care in our country undergoes a major overhaul, Signature is working to align with those objectives by partnering more closely with hospitals and other medical providers,” said Signature President and CEO Joe Steier. “We’re grateful to be able to partner with Methodist University Hospital to better serve the people of Memphis.”
