After nearly two years of intense planning, an innovative and expanding trend in employee healthcare convenience is now a reality for Shelby County Schools (SCS). Two new SCS Family Care Centers are the results of a partnership between the school system and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this convenient and affordable wellness care option to our 5,000-plus employees and their families,” said SCS Superintendent John Aitken. “We’re extremely fortunate to have Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare’s expert staff on board and thankful for the vision and efforts of our School Board and Coordinated School Health team in making this all possible.”
There are two SCS Family Care Centers. The locations are the SCS Facilities Maintenance complex at 2800 Gray’s Creek in Arlington and the Central Office East at 130 Flicker St. in Memphis. Both SCS Family Care Centers are open and serving SCS employees.
"This is an excellent partnership between Shelby County Schools and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare,” said Cato Johnson, senior vice president of corporate affairs for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. “This is a relationship we are very proud of."
SCS is one of four large school systems in Tennessee (Metro-Nashville, Rutherford County and Williamson County) to successfully implement on-site employee wellness centers. Staffed by Methodist Le Bonheur’s advanced nurse practitioners and trained medical assistants, both SCS Family Care Center sites operate similar to a minor medical clinic. They offer quick attention during the workday for non-emergency health conditions, vaccinations and preventive treatments, in addition to providing limited pharmacy services. All services provided on-site, including in-stock prescriptions, are provided at no cost to SCS employees. Plus, any family member covered on an employee’s SCS insurance plan can receive treatment at both Family Care Centers at a fee comparable to a doctor’s office co-pay.
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has successfully partnered with several prominent employers in the development and opening of similar on-site employee wellness centers in recent years, including International Paper, Tunica’s Hollywood Casino, Harrah’s (Corporate) and M.S. Carriers.
