Methodist University Hospital is among top six percent of hospitals in the United States for aortic valve replacement surgical procedures. The hospital received a "3-star" rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for aortic valve replacement surgical procedures and for overall cardiac outcomes.
This recently-developed comprehensive rating system allows for comparisons regarding the quality of isolated aortic valve surgery among hospitals across the country. Only 53 hospitals (6%) in the US received the "3-star" rating, which denotes the highest category of quality. The current analysis of national data used by STS for this system covers the period from July 2009 through June of 2012.
"Our goal is to deliver the highest quality health care possible to our patients in Memphis and the entire region," said Kevin M. Spiegel, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Methodist University Hospital.
