Methodist Medical Staff Elects First Female President

Heather Swanson, MDHeather Swanson, M.D., has been named president of the medical staff for Methodist South Hospital, Methodist North Hospital, Methodist University Hospital, Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital, and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. She is the first female physician to be elected president, as well as the first female elected to the five-year executive officer track of the medical staff.

During her one-year term as president of the medical staff, she will serve as the chief administrative officer of the medical staff, act in coordination with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) President and CEO Gary Shorb and Chief Operating Officer Michael Ugwueke, DHA, FACHE, in all matters of mutual concern within the hospitals, and appoint committee members and chairpersons to all medical staff committees. She will also serve as a member of the MLH Board of Directors.

A board certified internist, Dr. Swanson has been a hospitalist with Methodist University Hospital since 2004. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi and earned her medical degree from The University of Tennessee, Memphis. She is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine, American College of Physicians, and the Memphis Academy of Internal Medicine.
