Health Blog Urges Patients to Take Charge of Their Health

Focusing on the health needs of an active social media audience, the My Health Blog from Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare provides direct information from physicians and clinicians within the healthcare system.

Twice a week, patients and their families can visit the blog for new information and tips on setting up an appointment, what to expect during examinations or prevention techniques for illness and accidents. With the passage of the healthcare reform bill, consumers’ desire for healthcare knowledge has greatly increased, so as new developments are made available in the world of medicine, Methodist aims to keep patients informed of these changes and the impact it will have on their care.

“This new health blog focuses on ways people can take charge of their health, be informed about options and ask questions,” said Roc Johnson, director of web services for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. “Expert caregivers in our healthcare system offer remarks and insights on a variety of health topics.”

With an already present Methodist Facebook community, MLH wanted to provide another avenue for patients and their families to access health information. Topics currently featured on the blog include ovarian cancer, hospice, grief support and liver transplants.
